We are excited to announce that Ecologia and our partner, International Peace Initiatives (IPI), will be running a new set of skills trainings for HIV and poverty affected mothers in Meru, Kenya, enabling sustainable futures!
The skills training courses will be in catering, knitting and tie-dye marbling of cloths. Business skills trainings and follow up support with seed funds for cooperative initiatives will also be provided for graduates. This will be a year long program running for the 2nd year in a row.
Dr Karambu Ringera, director of IPI in Kenya had the following to say on the first years programme:
The funds that we have received at IPI have been very significant in helping us expand our women’s empowerment programme. We have been able to train many more women in income generation skills – jewellery making; weaving; detergent making; tie and dye; and tailoring – as well as provide the groups with seed money to set up their own businesses. The impact on the lives of women and their families and community as a whole has been enormous. This financial support has not only helped IPI grow our impact on the ground, but more importantly, meet our mandate and uphold our vision of inspiring action for transforming the lives of women in our society.
